The Witches Anthem
Dear humanity,
While you cower in fear of me, know that I am not who you think I am. You have been beWitched with a spell of fear and ignorance that resides outside the sphere of your awareness.
I am a Witch, self-defined, self-initiating and wholly unconcerned about any and all lies about me and my kind, misconceptions perpetuated by the mass consciousness, and juvenile definitions of what the world thinks I am.
No one knows who or what I am. I am an eternal mystery.
I AM WITCH.
No, I am not married to the devil, and no, I do not dance naked with him and his hordes in the forest under a full moon in an orgy of abominations.
No, I don’t eat babies.
No, I’m not green.
No, I don’t have warts, never had, and if I did, would immediately do something about it.
These are your vain imaginings and not my truth. I am not who you think I am.
I AM WITCH.
No, I am not Ursula thwarting love, nor am I Evillene threatening Dorothy, nor am I Maleficent casting darkness and destruction everywhere I tread, nor am I Melisandre roasting children.
In restricting your awareness to only the darkest representations of our kind, the poignant truth has completely escaped you:
THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF WITCHES.
You do not know what kind of Witch I am unless I choose to inform you.
I am not subject to your ill-conceived misunderstandings, nor your foolish childhood imaginings, nor your terrifying mental images.
You do not know who I am, for you are too blinded and stupefied to see past the wild imaginings of your controlled and conditioned mind. You think you know me. In reality, you do not.
I AM WITCH.
No, I do not cast spells on neighbors to make their crops dry up and die, nor do I cast spells on ex-lovers for their penises to shrivel up and fall off, nor am I interested in cursing anyone. I do not give my power to other people.
While you are busy seeking ways to protect yourself from me, I’m not thinking about you at all.
I AM WITCH.
I heal. I love. I teach. I grow plants. I live in harmony with Earth Mother and her inhabitants. I stroke my cat. I dance under the moon. I sit by the ocean and the river. I honor crystals as divine instruments. I hug trees and kiss flowers. I serve humans with my gifts. I drink Kombucha. I slather myself in essential oils. I imbibe teas made from leaves, flowers, roots and shoots. I make potions. I create. I transmute energy. I cast out demons. I vanquish negative energy. I burn incense. I talk to spirits. I read Tarot and the stars. I see the future. I love my family. I adore my lovers. I pray. I worship. I am devoted to the Goddess and serve as an emissary of the same.
I don’t start fights; I end them.
Align or get out of my way.
I AM WITCH.
